Another Snow Day in the Books: Reflecting on a Relaxing Day Off
It’s the second snow day in a row, and I have to admit, I’m feeling pretty relaxed. After snow-blowing my driveway early this morning, I took a nap and then spent the rest of the day reading a book, enjoying leftovers, and just generally taking it easy.
As a teacher, it’s not often that I get a chance to have a day like this. Usually, my days are filled with lesson planning, grading papers, and meeting with students and parents. But the snow has given me an unexpected break, and I made the most of it!
I spent the morning snow-blowing my driveway, which is always a bit of a workout. But it’s also a nice opportunity to get outside, breathe some fresh air, and enjoy the beauty of the snow. Plus, it’s a great way to start the day.
After I finished snow-blowing, I took a nap. It’s not something I get to do very often, but it was so nice to just lay down and rest for a bit. I felt refreshed and energized when I woke up, and it set the tone for the rest of the day.
In the afternoon, I read a book. It’s called The Observatory Mansion, I just started it yesterday. I got lost in the story and it was a great way to relax and forget about the world for a little while.
For dinner, I heated up some leftovers. Rice, broccoli, and a plant-based chicken patty in a bowl. I put some balsamic dressing and all the things spice blend – meh. It was nice to not have to worry about cooking or cleaning up a big mess. I was able to focus on my book and enjoy my dinner.
Overall, it was a really relaxing and enjoyable day. I’m grateful for the snow day, second of the week after a personal day off for my MacBook delivery! As I head back to work tomorrow, I’ll be refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the week. One day. I’ve got this.

Here We Go
As I sit here in my van by the water, typing a blog entry, I can’t help but be struck by the irony of my life. I’m a middle-aged teacher, and while I love my job, I’m not satisfied with it. I want something more – something that will challenge me and give me the opportunity to explore the world while learning new skills.
That’s why I’ve decided to start this blog. I’m ready to embark on a new journey, and I’m excited to share my experiences with you.
My interest in cybersecurity and coding has grown significantly in recent years, and I’m eager to apply my knowledge to my travels. I’m also looking forward to learning about the cultures and customs of the places I visit, and sharing my adventures with my readers.
I’m hopeful that this blog will provide me with an outlet to express my thoughts and feelings, and to share my experiences with others. I’m excited to explore the possibilities that my new computer will bring and the challenges I will face along the way.
So, here’s to beginning a new adventure!

So what is my plan for this site? I have some plans…but as we all know (especially in these pandemic times), plans really don’t mean much. That being said, you have to have an idea of what you want to accomplish in order to accomplish it. Personally, I don’t really know what I want until I work it out either verbally, or through writing. As mentioned in my previous post, I do live alone…so verbal mental “working it out” isn’t really a good option at this time. Thus…blogging. I need to work some stuff out. This is my place for that.
One of the things I need to figure out is my work. As mentioned, I am a teacher. A teacher with health conditions that my provider and I have determined will keep me from physically being in the classroom this fall. So I have done my due diligence (I think) and requested accommodations. Not much to report on that, I’m just setting the stage for you.
The other day there was a zoom meeting about the “plans” for this fall. This fall’s plan is to be a district enacting an absolute clusterfuck. In so many ways. We’ll be going over that more in-depth as I process through it in my own time. I can say this, however. I’ve always been aware of inequity in education. I was not aware of how glaringly districts and administration do not care to address those inequities within their own district. In many times if it is difficult to address them (or not within their personal viewpoints of perceived needs), then those inequities will not only not be addressed, but will be openly mocked. I also discovered (deep down I’m sure I knew, but I’m normally super optimistic so choose to ignore?) public education in the US has a for-profit mindset. I was shocked at some of the things I heard.
Anyhow. That’s something I need to work through. My work and reactions to how humans are being treated and treating others.
I’m also starting some cool projects that I need to share. I’ve had the benefit of time to actually use many of the projects and hobbies I seem to have hoarded over the past 20 years. I wouldn’t mind pursuing those as possible income and/or retirement work. One of these is making baskets, and the other is hula dancing (once music festivals are able to go on again, I will be ready!!!). So you’ll be hearing more of that.
There are some family things that need to be worked through. We’ll see if this is a place for that. At the very least, I will be sharing my viewpoints of some more “macro”or generalized concerns with issues that are a part of my family. But I don’t know that I’ll go into detail about my own personal circumstances. Many of these things are not my stories to tell, but I do want the freedom on my blog to react. We’ll see how that all works out, but I do know I have the ability to make my posts private, so may take advantage of that.
Thank you to those that read and liked my post. Honestly – I had forgotten the fun of that in blogging, and was pleasantly surprised when I got the notifications. I was able to visit some of your blogs, enjoyed what I saw, and got some good advice in some areas I needed. While this blog is mainly *for me* I welcome all of you, and totally you.
Anyhow. These are some of the main things going through my mind. Today’s plans are to meet with a friend (in the yard, social distant, etc.) and chat…maybe make a basket with her? I’m also planning on meeting with another for beach yoga this evening. I’d like to eat well today (it’s been a few days for that), and make sure I hydrate (two days since I cared about drinking water). I did get a good night’s sleep last night. I also want to make some chocolate chip cookies – got the ingredients out yesterday and didn’t do anything else. The butter was cold…and then the momentum went away while I waited.
Wednesday may begin.
